Upcycle Leather Sandals with Metallic Paint

Last summer, I was caught in the rain wearing my super comfy new leather sandals.  It was the end of the season so I put them in the attic and forgot about them. Last week, I found them as I was packing for my FL trip.  I decided to bring them along and try a little experiment.  Yes, I bring craft supplies on vacation.  I’m glad I decided to keep them.  I was able to upcycle my leather sandals with metallic paint.

The natural leather was discolored and stained from getting soaked.  I decided to use Matha Stewart All Surface Metallic Paint in Rose Gold because it looked best with the color of the elastic straps.  I used a brush to apply two light coats of paint to the leather portions of the sandals.  The leather is textured so I used a dry brush and lightly dabbed the paint to make sure it was even and all the crevices were covered. I waited an hour between coats.

I’m so happy I decided to keep these sandals.  This is a super easy project.  I encourage you to try it if you have a pair of sandals or leather accessories in need of a touch up.

Have you upcycled sandals or other leather accessories with paint?  Please share your tips and pictures below.

Upcycling is a great way to save money and our planet,
