Teacher Appreciation Week is a national holiday celebrated the first full week of May.  There are many ways to show your appreciation, including a thoughtful note and gift cards.  My favorite gifts are handmade, functional and from the heart.  Here are some teacher gift ideas, using materials from Dollar Tree and Cricut vinyl.

Chalkboard Sign

Teachers spend a lot of time creating inviting spaces for our children.  For Sofia’s teacher, I wanted to make a personalized gift she could hang for Valentine’s Day.  This glittered heart-shaped chalkboard sign is from Dollar Tree.  There are lots of shape options available online and at your local craft store.

For this sign, I made a stencil on my Cricut and used liquid chalk for the text.  If you want to make the text permanent, use white paint.  For a tutorial, read the How to Make A Chalkboard Sign post.

Personalized Gift / Candy Box

The Dollar Tree has a great selection of gift boxes and bags.  Make your gift special by personalizing it with the teacher’s initials.  I used adhesive glitter letter stickers.  Since the glittered heart is textured, I applied a light coat of Mod Podge over the stickers to make sure they adhered to the box.

This gift box is filled with 6 oz of pink and red Hershey’s kisses and a card from Lucas.  We picked Hershey’s kisses because they are Lucas’ favorite chocolate (and who doesn’t like Hershey’s kisses?).

Finally, tie a grosgrain ribbon around the box.  I learned to tie a ribbon bow while working with Martha Stewart.  Here is a great bow tying tutorial.
