Watermelon Sorbet Recipe
I recently bought a mini “seedless” watermelon for the kids. They decided that it had seeds and wouldn’t eat it. What’s a Latina Mom to do? Purée the watermelon and make a refreshing watermelon sorbet. Here’s a 3-ingredient sorbet recipe you can use with your favorite fruit.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups puréed watermelon (8 cups chopped watermelon)
Tip: This recipe can also be made with Goya frozen fruit pulp. Replace fresh fruit with one package of frozen fruit pulp. Goya offers a variety of tropical fruit pulps. My favorite is passion fruit.
You’ll Need:
- Blender
- Strainer
- Ice cream and sorbet maker – I have a Cuisinart ice cream and sorbet maker which I love. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results
- Freezer safe container
Cooking Instructions:
- Make a simple syrup by boiling 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar on low heat. Set aside to cool
- Cut watermelon into chunks and purée in a blender
- Strain the watermelon purée to remove the seeds and fibers
- Combine the strained watermelon puree and simple syrup
- Place the mixture in the refrigerator to chill (30 minutes)
- Churn the watermelon mixture in your sorbet maker by following the manufacturer’s instructions
- Place the sorbet in the freezer to Harden (1 hour)
Tips for Making this Recipe
- For best results, your sorbet maker bowl should be frozen solid
- The sorbet mixture should be cold before churning it
- My sorbet maker takes 35 minutes to churn the watermelon mixture
- The mixture is ready to freeze when it has a slushy consistency (see image above for reference)
- You can freeze the sorbet in a large freezer safe container or as individual servings.
- I use Wilton silicon baking cups to make individual servings for the kids. They are a great snack size for kids and adults.
This recipe makes 48oz or 12 4oz servings.
This recipe can be made with any ripe fruit. It’s a refreshing natural summer snack for the kids using ripe fruit which would have been wasted. Another Landaeta kid favorite is banana chocolate chip bread, using over ripe bananas.
