Packing List for Kids

Traveling with kids can be stressful. You can minimize the stress by using this packing list for kids ages five and older. I created a packing list for my first trip with Lucas. He was three months old and I was a new mom. Even though I was only traveling to West Palm Beach, FL, I was concerned I would forget something important. Moms, don’t underestimate the value of peace of mind. It seems like a lot of stuff but it’s better to be over prepared, especially when it comes to traveling with kids. Trust me.

There are six categories in this packing list for kids, so you can decide what you’ll need depending on the age of your children, the length of the trip and your destination.

  1. Clothing
  2. Bedtime
  3. Toiletries
  4. For the Beach / Pool
  5. For the Plane / Car
  6. Miscellaneous

Use it as a reference tool and add additional items to meet your needs in the Notes section or margins. Print it out a couple of days prior to your trip and check off items as you go. Give older kids a copy of the list and let them help you gather everything.

Travel Tips:
  • As soon as you make your plane reservation, select your seats to ensure you’re sitting as a family. You don’t want any surprises or a three year old sitting by themselves.
  • Plane and traffic delays can ruin your day. Pack snacks in case you miss a meal due to unexpected delays or if you have a long trip ahead of you.
  • If your child is old enough for a carryon, let them pack it with toys and activities for the plane, such as summer reading, coloring books, crayons, and card games.
  • Avoid spills on the plane by bringing a water bottle or cup with lid which you can fill during the beverage service.
  • Bring an extra power bank and charging cables. Electronics have a way of dying when your child is at their crankiest.
  • Younger kids do better when there is a routine and they feel at home. When you pack, bring one or two things that’ll make your child feel less anxious and more comfortable in a new place.
My Family’s Favorite Destinations:

Remember, spending quality time as a family is the priority. Try not to sweat the small stuff and enjoy your trip.
