How to Make a Custom Stenciled Wedding Album
This weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Yvette and Miguel’s wedding. In addition to wedding favors, I made them a custom stenciled wedding album with their names and wedding date. While we live in the digital age, I still like to print out my favorite pictures of special memories and create photo albums and scrapbooks. This project is also great for bridal and baby showers.
For this project, I used:
- A cloth-covered photo album
- Custom adhesive stencil made with my Cricut
- Martha Stewart Crafts multi-surface paint
- Fabric medium
- Small foam pouncer
- Paper flower stickers from Michaels
Here are the steps for stenciling the album cover:
- Apply the adhesive stencil to your cover. Make sure there are no bubbles or raised edges which will allow the paint to seep under the stencil. I like to use an old credit card to smooth out the stencil.
- When you use a cloth-covered album, you need to mix your paint with fabric medium (follow instructions on package). The fabric medium allows the paint to dry soft and prevents peeling. Try to keep the paint mixture thick so it doesn’t seep under the stencil.
- Apply a small amount of paint to your pouncer by dabbing the foam end into the paint. Then, dab the paint onto your stencil. If there is too much paint on your pouncer, dab it on a paper towel before you apply it to the stencil.
- Once you’ve filled in your stencil, let the paint sit 1-2 minutes before you remove the stencil. It’s best to remove the stencil while the paint is still wet. Take your time and be careful when removing the stencil. Martha Stewart Crafts paint can be washed off with soap and water if you have any accidents as you remove the stencil.
For Yvette and Miguel’s wedding, I chose a pink album to match their wedding theme. They displayed the album at their wedding reception. Guests took Instax pictures and wrote the couple notes on scrapbook pages. I was happy they liked my gift enough to incorporate it into their wedding celebration.
