How to Make Graduation Pennant Signs
For Lucas’ pre-K graduation ceremony, I made a large sign from poster board which was a pain to carry. For his kindergarten graduation, I decided to make pennant signs using craft supplies I had on hand. I must admit I have a small craft hoarding problem which I know many of you can relate to. These graduation signs were easy to make, less bulky and visible from afar. Sofia, my 3 year old, was able to wave them to get her brother’s attention as he walked into the auditorium.
For this project, I used:
- Double-sided 12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper
- 2″ self adhesive letters. Before you apply the letters, decide the placement and spacing of the words. Use your ruler to keep the letters straight as you apply them
- 1 1/4″ wide washi tape
- 19 1/2″ plastic tubes. I recycled these from a dead orchid plant. You can find similar ones in wood at your local craft store
- Ruler
- Scissors
Here are the steps for making the graduation pennant signs:
- On the right side of the paper, measure and mark 6″ from the top
- Use a ruler to mark 2 lines – one from the top left corner to the 6″ mark and one from the bottom left corner to the 6″ mark
- Cut along the two lines to make the pennant shape
- Use self adhesive letters to add your message
- Turn over the pennant and use the washi tape to attach the plastic tubes 1/2″ from the edge (see image above)
It took me about 20 minutes to make each sign. Try making one for your next graduation or special event and let me know how it goes.
